About the region, programmes

The Őrség region is located in the south-western corner of Hungary. It cannot be geographically defined, however it has it’s unique ethnological and cultural roots which makes it an important region of the area. The name Őrség originates from the times, when the Settlement of the Hungarians took place and this region served as a defense area along the border. („őr” means „guardian” in Hungarian) The total area is 192 m2 consisting of 18 parishes.

The village of Hegyhátszentjakab is known to exist since the middle-ages and it is located at the entrance of the Őrségi National Park in the north-eastern corner of the Őrség, 220 km far from Budapest. Both Austria and Slovenia are within a 40 km range and this gives a good opportunity to visit some „neighbours”.

Outside the village lies Lake Vadása, which is quite a strong attractive feature and thus the village can be accessed from various directions. The two most important cities of the region, Körmend and Szombathely are 21 km and 46 km far respectively.

The peaceful atmosphere of the region provides a pleasant environment for those who wish to relax but at the same time everyone can find an activity to their needs, including fishing, hiking and the various programmes.
